Roofing Materials

From Roofers Wiki

Roofing materials are the products used as the outer weatherproof covering of a roof. The right material depends on climate, budget, building type, and roof slope.

Common materials[edit]

  • Asphalt Shingles — the most common residential roofing in North America
  • Metal Roofing — long-lasting panels and shingles in steel, aluminum, copper, and zinc
  • Clay and concrete tile — durable and distinctive, common in warmer climates
  • Slate — natural stone prized for its long life
  • Wood shakes and shingles — a traditional, rustic look
  • Membrane systems — EPDM, TPO, and PVC used on flat and low-slope roofs

Choosing a material[edit]

Key considerations include lifespan, cost, weight, fire rating, wind resistance, and how well the material suits the roof's slope.
